A weekly antenatal group for young parents-to-be in Ōtautahi Christchurch, offering practical, evidence-based support to prepare for birth, babies and early parenting.

What the group covers

Each session builds practical, evidence-based knowledge to help you prepare for birth, babies and early parenting.

Preparing for birth

Practical, evidence-based information about labour, birth and what to expect.

Newborn care

Guidance on feeding, settling and caring for your baby in the first few weeks.

Early parenting

Building confidence in routines, responding to your baby’s needs and everyday parenting.

Peer connection

Connecting with other young parents-to-be in a warm, judgement-free group.

How long does the group run, and who can refer?

YP2B runs as a seven-week group, meeting weekly and facilitated by a community midwife alongside a Waipuna social worker. Each session builds on the last, covering birth, babies and early parenting.

Young parents-to-be can self-refer, and referrals are also welcome from whānau, midwives, health professionals, schools and social service agencies. We ask that the young person knows about the referral and is open to being contacted, as our work is based on trust, choice and partnership.

For young parents-to-be, it’s a chance to learn, ask questions and build connections, so you feel more prepared and supported as you get ready to welcome your baby.
