Bye-bye Bongs, No NO NOS: CAYAD launches campaign to keep drug gear off shop shelves
CAYAD (Community Action on Youth and Drugs) Ōtautahi has launched a new campaign to stop local shops selling bongs, drug pipes, and nitrous oxide (NOS) into the community.
The campaign, “Bye-bye Bongs, No NO NOS”, explains two rules that many people do not know about.
First, it is against the law to sell, supply or import cannabis and methamphetamine utensils. This covers most bongs and water pipes, some hash pipes, and pincer or tweezer roach clips that show a cannabis leaf. A bong is caught when it has a feature such as a water chamber or a glass, metal or ceramic bowl, so nearly all of them are covered.
Second, it is illegal to sell NOS products, often called ‘nangs’, for people to inhale to get high. Nitrous oxide has real uses in cooking and medicine, but selling it as a party drug is not allowed.
CAYAD says the goal is to keep these products away from young people and to help shops understand the law.

CAYAD is asking the public to help. If you see a store selling bongs, pipes, or NOS, you can report it to Police via 105 online, or contact CAYAD directly.
